At what age do we start accepting students?
We encourage that students are atleast 5 years old when they get innitiated into the art form.
How many years does it take to perform the Arangetram?
That depends on the child’s ability and age. Generally, a minimum of 6-8 years.
What are the benefits of learning Bharatanatyam?
Some of the benefits for young kids are:
- They gain a sense of discipline through learning new positions They learn co-ordination, balance and how to control their bodies in motion
They learn to follow instructions
- They are active and getting daily exercise
- Helps with stage fear as they get used to performing.
- They develop long and strong muscles from the practice
- They gain a sense of self-confidence and pride in their bodies and what they can accomplish

- The skills learned in Bharatanatyam are useful for other forms of dancing – be it classical or contemporary if they want to take that up later
Is it too late to start learning Bharatanatyam after one is 25 years?
No, It is never too late to learn something new.
What style [bani] of Bharatanatyam is taught at Dayananda Kalalayam?
We follow the Tanjavoor Bani. Bani or tradition is term used to describe the dance technique and style specific to the guru/school.
